Yvonne, Steve and I painted at Lake Merritt in Oakland to celebrate Steve’s 40th birthday and it was a blast. The weather was picture perfect, I had never been to this lake and was disappointed that I had been away from it so long! As I creaked into painting mode, not having painted for a month, I whipped out about 5 paintings and studies to get the effect that I was going for. The featured image on the top is my first attempt and the image below is the study I made in my book at night while recalling the scene. Painting plein air is wonderful this way – it imprints an image so you can recall it in just the pieces you liked!
