In January, in a small class of 9 people, armed with iPads and Procreate App installed, I will walk you through basics of the app and teach you the efficient workflow that I’ve come up with so that the sense of overwhelm reduces for new adopters of this medium.

In the landscape class of February, we will use the previously learned skills and use these digital skills to paint landscapes. A lot of digital art is assumed to be like illustrating and drawing. I believe, one can paint in it and this class will enable you to paint while learning my thought process.

An excellent introduction to Procreate. While the class doesn’t require any background in the tool, it is helpful to have played around with it beforehand. By the end of the three hours, you will be equipped with most of the basic features of Procreate to start using this new medium to make art.

I attended a workshop in Digital Landscape Painting in San Jose at Uma Kelkar’s (@umapaints ) studio. What a wonderful artist and teacher! I highly recommend her Digital, Plein air and Urban Sketcher workshops. Today we learned how to create and build a digital landscape using the iPad and Procreate App. Lots of helpful tips. Check out Uma’s new book on digital Urban Sketching available on Amazon Books. I had a really great time seeing the different approaches to this scene by the attending artists.

I took Landscape Painting in Procreate. What an excellent class! Uma’s instructions and advice were so clear and they gave me a different way of thinking about using Procreate. This is the first time I’ve been shown how to get a painterly result with this tool. Uma is a positive and entertaining teacher, and I learned so much. I always leave Uma’s classes with enthusiasm to put all her lessons to use.

This is a review of the Landscapes in Procreate class. This class is the first I’ve found that teaches how to create a painterly effect in Procreate. Uma’s instruction is clear and well thought out. She takes a powerful tool and shows how to get some beautiful results, and even better, shows how to keep going to learn and create beyond the class. Uma is a wonderful instructor!

I had the opportunity to attend both classes in the series – Basics of Procreate & Landscape Painting in Procreate. It was extremely beneficial for me to try my hands on Uma’s workflow (which was Very organized, btw) and I have benefited from it. The pace of both classes was set based on the participants’ experience in Procreate, which was immensely helpful for students like me who have had some prior experience with the tool. However, I was still very surprised on the new techniques that I learned in class.

Landscape painting was probably my favorite of the two – at the end of the class I saw myself looking at a painting that I could not believe I had produced! Uma’s instructions, although very prescriptive left ample space for creativity and interpretation – we were able to see this in the variance in outputs that everyone produced, despite having drawn the same landscape with the same set of instructions! Uma’s style of teaching is collaborative in nature, and the class seemed like drawing together with friends, rather than learning in a classroom setting.

I would highly recommend these classes for anyone who’s interested in embracing the digital medium to paint, and to be inspired by the possibilities offered by this very powerful tool.
