Paint ONLINE with international direct watercolor and urban-sketching instructor, Uma Kelkar during an online weekend workshop through Madeline Island School of the Arts. This workshop will be held live on Zoom where students will have the opportunity to interact with Uma and other students.

There are no shortcuts to hard work, but there is no reason to not avoid common pitfalls. In this weekend workshop called Watercolor Toolset, learn tricks of a seasoned artist. Don’t let the words seasoned throw you off – Uma will work with you to make a reduced but versatile palette+brush set, offer systems to avoid blotchy watercolors, teach basics of color mixing and teach you tricks of using limited water while not making it muddy. Concepts will be delivered piece meal but each concept will be tied into an exercise to see usage of the concept. An extended lunchtime between the morning and afternoon session will allow students to practice skills learned in the morning before afternoon session begins. Uma places a high premium on technical skill as well as mental skills and will share both skills for a wholesome plein-air or in-studio experience. Students are encouraged to make notes as the class will teach you more than can be practiced over a weekend, but going over your own notes will allow you to hone them in your personal practice. Splitting class over two days will allow folks to practice skills learned in class at home the same evening. Suitable for beginner watercolor students.
